A graduate assistantship is a student employment opportunity for graduate students. These opportunities offer academic/practical work experience while you pursue your graduate degree. Graduate Assistants work a set number of hours per week and, in return, receive a tuition waiver.

Each assistantship has its own unique job description and duties as assigned by the department or supervisor.

  • GA for Sports Information

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Graduate Assistant will assist in the development and implementation of a high-quality collegiate athletic sports information program, which is in conformity with NCAA, conference and university rules, regulations, and policies.

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Support and perform duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations.
    • Obtains and edits information concerning all phases of the university’s athletic programs for publication on local, state, and national levels.
    • Releases information to newspaper, magazines, radio, television, or to be presented in speeches, brochures, •Informational bulletins, media guides or websites concerning programs within the athletic department. •Maintains the athletic website.
    • Maintains sports records and publications of statistics on a regular basis.
    • Responsible for organization and coordination of score keeping, statistics recording and all other table workers at all home athletic events.
    • Build relationships with local, state, and national media outlets and their personnel.
    • Assists in the marketing and promotion of the university’s athletic department.
    • Responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of all sports information areas and equipment.
    • Recruiting student workers.
    • Supervises professional and student assistants.
    • Active involvement in community service activities.
    • Assure the academic success of the student workers.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited College or University is required.
    • Must be accepted into a graduate program at Limestone University.

  • GA for Online and Graduate Programs: Customer Service Rep. (2 positions)

    Graduate Assistant will work 20 hours a week. The schedule will be determined based on the department's needs and the successful candidate's availability. The standard departmental schedule is Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM – 1:30 PM. This is an on-campus position.

    SCOPE OF WORK:

    As an Online and Graduate Customer Service Representative, you are the first impression for prospective students and foster advisor-student relationships. You connect with prospective online and graduate students to support them in making informed decisions about their college careers in order for students to achieve their educational goals and create meaningful futures at Limestone University. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Online and Graduate Programs, and it works collaboratively with Enrollment Counselors, the Registrar's Office, the Student Accounts Office, Financial Aid, and other university offices. This position is based on the main campus in Gaffney, SC.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Guide and assist prospective applicants and applicants through the admissions process, including answering questions related to academic program requirements, transfer credits, transcript submission, online and seated learning options, and other application-related tasks; communicate with new and prospective online and/or graduate students via outbound and inbound call contact (3+ hours of talk time per day).
    • As a member of a high-performing team, meet performance goals and respond to all prospective student inquiries via phone, e-mail, text, or other methods for the online and graduate programs.
    • Maintain proper communication and follow-up with all prospective students. Some form of communication is required for each prospective student inquiry daily.
    • Keep accurate and detailed records of student information observing confidentiality and following all university and federal policies.
    • Collaborate with Enrollment Counselors to maintain a friendly, service-oriented relationship with prospective students through effective phone, email, video conference, and face-to-face communication. 
    • Participate in department meetings as requested.
    • Work collaboratively with other staff members and various departments.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited College or University is required.
    • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Limestone University.

  • Social Media/Marketing GA for the University Library

    The Graduate Assistant will work 20 hours a week that will include evening hours on campus. This Graduate Assistant position is scheduled to start in Summer 2024.

    Scope of work:

    This position will assist Library staff and faculty with administrative support to ensure effective and efficient communication and outreach via the Library's social media posts and other activities to engage with prospective students, current students, faculty, and staff, as well as alumni. This position will also provide staffing for library night hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive social media plan for systematic and effective posts to promote Limestone Library on various platforms.
    • Promote the Library’s resources to potential undergraduate and graduate students at both in-person and virtual recruiting events.
    • Communicate via social media with potential, current students, and alumni, when needed under the direction of the Outreach and Instruction Librarian.
    • Assist with working at events and meetings for the Library, where practical. 
    • Assist Library staff and faculty with filing, organizing, and with planning activities, such as National Library week.
    • Staffing the library’s Information desk on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited College or University is required, preferably with a Marketing concentration.

    SCOPE OF WORK:

    To assist the Limestone University Library with smooth operations of computer systems and ensuring users get maximum benefits from them. Also, operations of computer software (Windows, remote access technology, Office 365, etc.) and assisting students with access and technical troubleshooting issues in person, email and over the phone. The Graduate Assistant will be able to communicate orally with customers and work closely with the library’s assistant director. This is an on-campus position.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Liaison to the Limestone IT Department
    • Installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications
    • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems
    • Communicating to faculty, staff, or students, either face to face, phone, or email to resolve issues
    • Troubleshoot system and network issues and diagnosing hardware or software faults
    • Maintaining patron assistant reports for assistant director
    • Setting up new user accounts and profiles and troubleshooting password issues

  • GA for Office of Student Activities: Timken Center Manager

    Graduate Assistant will work 20 hours a week. Monday – Friday: 6 PM – 10 PM. This is an on-campus position.

    Scope of work:

    To assist the Office of Student Activities by supervising the student staff in the Timken Center along with daily tasks to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for our Limestone Community in the Timken Center. See the Duties & Responsibilities listed below for more detailed information on daily tasks. Assistance is needed in the Timken Center to ensure supervision that the Director of Student Activities cannot do along with their responsibilities as an advisor to the Limestone Activities Board (LAB) and Limestone Esports Team. Along with other duties such as managing Student Involvement organizations and providing revenue to Limestone University through Summer Camps and Conferences. This added help will ensure that our Timken Center operates safely and efficiently.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Create a work schedule for Work Study/Student Workers, based on their availability, each semester.
    • Research the Home games for Limestone University’s Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Basketball, and Men’s Wrestling as the Timken Auxiliary Gym and Weight Room are to be closed during these games.
    • Communicate with Timken Staff regarding closures of the Timken Auxiliary Gym and Weight Room two weeks in advance of the closure.
    • Ensure that the Timken Staff are fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.
    • Open and close the Timken Weight Room and Front Desk during hours of operation.
    • Oversee Work Study/Student Worker timesheets by ensuring the accuracy of clock-in/clock-out times listed on their timesheets.
    • Turning in timesheets to the Director of Student Activities based on the Timesheet/Payroll schedule put forth by the Office of Human Resources and Office of Financial Aid.
    • Notifying the Director of Student Activities of any personnel issues regarding staff (continuous tardiness, missing shifts, not performing duties and responsibilities, etc.).
    • Other duties as assigned.
