Limestone Esports Program Now Playing Spring Schedules

Limestone University’s esports program, which got its spring schedules started earlier this month, will continue to compete through the month of April as the Saints battle in Rocket League, League of Legends, and Valorant.

Limestone is now a member of the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), which began sponsoring esports in the fall of 2020. The conference currently sponsors both regular season competition and championships across a wide variety of popular titles.

With more than 100 colleges and universities currently competing in the conference, the NECC strives, according to its website, to be a positive home for the collegiate gaming community. During its first year of play, the conference streamed more than 400 hours of live action and NECC game play was seen by more than eight million people across its platforms.

The Saints’ will play their third match of the Rocket League Navigators Division on Tuesday, Feb. 22, against Campbellsville University. The third match of the League of Legends Emergent Division slate will be played against Bryant University on Friday, Feb. 25. The fourth match of the Valorant Emergent Division season will be played on Monday, Feb. 28, against Lees-McRae College.

Along with competitive varsity and junior varsity squads, Limestone offers a recreational gaming club that has access to the University’s state-of-the-art gaming lab and lounge.

Lewis, a former esports player and coach at the Oklahoma State University, was hired in 2020 to develop and coach Limestone’s new program.
