Steven Bryant, an internationally celebrated composer, will conduct Limestone University’s 14th Annual High School Honor Band Clinic early next year.
The two-day clinic is scheduled to take place at Limestone on January 27 and 28, 2022.
A household name among musicians, Bryant has written several popular pieces for bands, orchestras, small ensembles, and soloists. He is a three-time winner of the National Band Association's William D. Revelli Composition Award (2007, 2008, 2010). The Limestone University Wind Ensemble performed one of his most popular works, “Dusk,” in the Fall of 2020.
“We are extremely excited to have Steven Bryant work with our area high school students,” said Dr. Seth Taft, Limestone’s Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Instrumental Music, and Program Coordinator of Music and Music Education. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for students from all across South Carolina and beyond to come work with a world-class composer and clinician.”
Bryant’s music fuses lyricism, dissonance, silence, technology, and humor into skillfully crafted works. He has been the winner of the American Bandmaster’s Association’s Ostwald Award and is a three-time winner of the National Band Association’s Revelli Award. A prolific composer, his substantial catalogue of music is regularly performed throughout the world. Recently, his “Ecstatic Waters” was premiered by the Minnesota Orchestra. The son of a professional trumpeter and music educator, he strongly values music education, and his creative output includes several works for young and developing musicians.
Registration for the event will begin on Nov. 1 and is open to any interested high school student who plays a band instrument. There is no cost for students to participate. More information can be found HERE and HERE.
In 2008, Limestone University inaugurated the Honor Band Clinic for area middle and high school musicians. The clinic is designed to provide an ideal musical experience for high school winds and percussionists. By director nomination, the selected participants rehearse each year with prestigious guest music educators and conductors.
