Social Work Month Spotlight: Ashleigh Thompson Cline's Journey

Ashleigh Thompson Cline

March is National Social Work Month!

We want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the incredible social workers who dedicate their lives to making a difference. From advocating for vulnerable communities to providing essential support and guidance, their compassion and commitment change lives every single day.

Today, we're excited to share a powerful testimonial from Ashleigh Thompson Cline, a proud Limestone University social work alumna and current MSW student who is making an impact in the world.

FROM STUDENT TO CHANGEMAKER: A SOCIAL WORK JOURNEY

"I have started the MSW program, and after earning my degree this past December, I transitioned from a peer counselor to an in-process clinical counselor specializing in substance use. I currently serve as the Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program Coordinator and the Medication-Assisted Treatment Coordinator at Westview Behavioral Health in Newberry, South Carolina.

"I loved Limestone’s BSW program, and my professors were amazing. They played a huge impact on my success and educational journey. My values keep me committed to helping my clients and all people, truly. It’s ingrained in who I am. I have a deep passion for supporting those struggling with substance use because I believe in recovery and sobriety. This mission is deeply personal to me because I am also on my own long-term recovery journey.”

What has been the most lasting impact of your time at Limestone, both professionally and personally?

"The connections I made with the faculty, especially my BSW professors, really stand out. I believe they will always be a part of my life. Graduating Summa Cum Laude and earning my BSW degree was a huge accomplishment – especially since I started college at 43 after more than 20 years away from school. I will never forget that special day, the pride I felt, and the joy of making my family proud."
