A dedicated Limestone College alum, supporter, and Board of Trustees member will receive a special recognition during an upcoming graduation ceremony.
Limestone has three commencement exercises scheduled for Thursday, May 4; Friday, May 5; and Saturday, May 6.
At Thursday’s commencement, dedicated alumna, loyal trustee, benefactor, and friend Sara Jernigan Eddins will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree.
Eddins, who has resided in Lancaster, South Carolina, since 1940, is a 1960 graduate of Limestone College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She received her Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Converse College.
She was named Limestone’s Philanthropist of the Year in 2016, and was honored as the College’s Alumna of the Year in 2013.
Eddins is a current member of the Limestone Board of Trustees who has assisted the College in numerous ways for many years. She has supported fundraising efforts for such projects as renovations to Dixie Lodge, Hamrick Hall of Science, and Winnie Davis Hall of History, and has given faithfully to the Limestone Fund. Eddins has also been an enthusiastic advocate of the efforts to construct a new campus library.
In addition, she has given to many of the College’s programs, including gifts to the Wind Ensemble and to the Saints Club, plus providing funding for educational student travel.
A native of Mooresville, NC, Eddins has enjoyed a career that includes stints as a mathematics teacher at Lancaster High School, Faith Christian School, and The Catawba School. She was also a mathematics instructor at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster, where she was recognized as Professor of the Year.
Eddins was the co-owner of The Learning Place from 1989 through 2000.
She has served as a member of the Lancaster City Council, the Lancaster Planning Commission, Habitat for Humanity Board, the South Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs, the Lancaster County Council of the Arts, Lancaster County Retired Teachers organization, and other associations.
Eddins is a member of the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary and has been recognized as a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. She is a past State Director of the South Carolina Women’s Club.
