A parody of 1950s “whodunit” theatre mysteries, the musical comedy “Curtains” will have a three-night run at Limestone College Theatre on October 20-22. Show-time each day is at 7:30 p.m.
The production is being directed by Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, Limestone’s Director of Theatre and Musical Theatre. The music director is Dr. David Thompson, a Professor of Music at the College.
The plot involves a lone Boston detective, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, who investigates a series of murders that take place behind the scenes of a fictional 1950s cowboy musical, “Robbin' Hood.” The cast of “Robbin' Hood” is forced to stay inside the theater while Cioffi unravels the mystery, getting involved with the show, and falling in love with ingénue Niki Harris in the process. The original Broadway cast included actor David Hyde Pierce in the role of Lieutenant Cioffi.
From the creators of “Cabaret” and “Chicago,” “Curtains” is based on the book by Rupert Holmes, with music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, with additional lyrics by Kander and Holmes.
Advance tickets are available at www.showtix4u.com. Adult tickets are $12 each, while those 65-over and non-Limestone students (with ID) are $8 each. Limestone students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door starting one hour before each performance.
The production includes a cast of 22 Limestone College students, with Luke Holt in the lead role as Lieutenant Cioffi. Holt is a sophomore Bachelor of Fine Arts major from Gaffney. The role of Harris is being performed by junior Bachelor of Fine Arts major Kinsey Gregg from Gaffney. The band for the production includes Dr. Thompson and Jim Simmons on keyboards, David Hodges on trumpet, Mike Miller on trombone, Shawn Allen on guitar, and David Lawson on drums.
