Limestone College’s Dylan Sims will give his senior percussion recital performance on Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium.
From Cassatt, S.C., he attended North Central High School. Sims, who began his musical journey as a percussionist in sixth grade, is now a senior at Limestone College. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. He has participated in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, iPan Steel Drum Ensemble, and the Limestone College Marching Saints.
He has studied percussion with Dr. Doug Presley, RebEvening Programa Guzewicz, and Jonan Keeny and Music Education with Dr. Presley, and Dr. Patrick Carney. Sims has participated in the Collegiate Honor Band for two consecutive years at Clemson University and Coastal Carolina University, respectively. He is the recipient of the Mary H. Simpson Scholarship and Eva June Foster Scholarship, and he has been named a Limestone College Music Ambassador.
As an educator, Sims has been a clinician and instructor at several schools throughout the state of South Carolina. He is a sought after adjudicator for the marching band and indoor percussion circuits. Students under his instruction have consistent Superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival, as well as success in Region and All-State Bands. He is also currently the Director of Bands at the Village School of Gaffney, a small private Christian school in Gaffney.
The son of Roger and Gretchen Sims of Camden, Dylan will student teach next semester with Eric Wells at Clover High School. After graduation, he plans on pursuing a career in Music Education as well as staying active as a performer, clinician, and adjudicator.
For his senior recital, Sims will be performing Fantasy on the Doxology (Josh Gottry); It Is Well With My Soul (Gottry); Be Still, My Soul (Gottry); Cold Pressed (David Hollinden); Una Limosnita Por Amor De Dios (Agustin Barrios Mangore); Sonata for Timpani (John Beck); My Lady White (David Maslanka); Theme and Variations for Four Timpani (John Floyd); and Variations on Japanese Children’s Songs (Keiko Abe).
A reception for Sims will follow in the Winnie Davis Hall of History.
