Dave Rilling and his wife, Nancy, have endowed a scholarship at Limestone College with a gift of $25,000. The Rilling Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student demonstrating a financial need who shows solid academic promise and achievement.
“Nancy and I spent large portions of our lives and careers at Limestone, and the College is near and dear to our hearts,” Mr. Rilling said. “We know it’s not easy getting started in life and we’ve been there, so we try to give back as much as possible. We hope this new scholarship will assist many deserving students in the years to come.”
The gift of an endowed scholarship provides Limestone with a perpetual asset from which students can receive support. An endowed scholarship is a permanent fund in which the principal remains intact and invested at all times. Scholarships are awarded from the allocated income earned on the principal investment. The Rilling Scholarship will be made annually to a deserving student according Limestone’s financial aid policies.
The Rillings will provide a $1,000 annual scholarship at Limestone until the endowment fund matures.
“College is a memorable time,” Mrs. Rilling noted. “That’s where you get your start, and it’s what you remember for the rest of your life. We want to help and support students at a place that we love. I cannot say enough about Limestone and the students – we just love them.”
Serving as the Vice President for Financial Affairs at the time, Mr. Rilling retired from Limestone in 2015 after 29 years of service. Mrs. Rilling served for many years as Limestone’s Archival Custodian until her retirement that same year. Thanks to the generosity of the Rilling family, the Hall of Fame Room at Limestone’s Bob Campbell Field House was named in their honor three years ago.
"Endowed scholarships like this from the Rilling family are forever gifts,” said Limestone College President Dr. Darrell Parker. “Long after all of us have gone on to our glory, there will still be young scholars receiving the Dave and Nancy Rilling endowed scholarship at Limestone College. We appreciate so much their generosity and their friendship.”
