Limestone College has 17 students who received scholarships this year through a grant program operated by the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU).
The SCICU supports and promotes the values of independent higher education in South Carolina. It seeks to advance higher education through fundraising, scholarships, and research, as well as by facilitating collaborative activities among the member institutions. The nonprofit organization also enhances a positive public image and encourages government policies that support independent higher education.
Overall, Limestone students received a total of $23,267 from the SCICU Scholar Program during the 2018-2019 academic year.
The Scholar Program is one of five scholarship programs SCICU raises funds for to make private colleges and universities more accessible to students.
“In today’s times of shrinking support for federal and state student financial aid, private scholarships are even more important than ever in helping our students afford the cost of college attendance,” said Edward Shannon, executive vice president of SCICU.
The SCICU recently distributed $60,000 to provide scholarships for 20 students through the UPS Foundation and Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington. The scholarship program helps with higher education costs for low-income and first generation college students.
Limestone College junior biology major Isiah Odom received a $3,000 scholarship from the UPS Foundation and CIC during the 2018-2019 academic year.
