Limestone College will host an Arts and Letters Day event on Friday, Oct. 3, for area high school students. Arts and Letters is committed to the ideals of the liberal arts. Its curriculum is designed to introduce students to the full range of human experiences through the study of cultural heritage, forms of artistic and literary expressions, patterns of social and political behavior, and methods of critical inquiry. The mission of Arts and Letters is to prepare students for rigorous, intellectual and creative inquiry leading to their full development as human beings and to their responsible engagement with society. Students will arrive and check in at Fullerton Auditorium from 8:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mark Reger and Associate Professor of Theatre & English Dr. Carrie Ameling will welcome students from 9 p.m. until 9:15. From 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., students will then participate in groups as they visit five different areas of the college. Those include Curtis Ceramics Lab with professor Carolyn Ford for the Empty Bowls Project, Granberry Gallery with professor Chris Neyen for Images and Type, Winnie Davis Hall of History with professors Erin Pushman and Alex Richardson for Writing and the Body, Carroll Fine Arts Building with Dr. Patrick Carney for Steel Drums, and Fullerton Auditorium with Dr. Ameling for Voice and Movement. A second set of activities will be held from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Those will include Asian Brush Painting with Dr. Youmi Efurd at Granberry, Communications In A Brave New World with Dr. Randy Nichols at Granberry, Writing and the Body II with Professors Pushman and Richardson at Winnie Davis Hall, Museums and Music with Dr. Patricia Hoskins and Dr. Karl Trybus at Winnie Davis Hall Third Floor Gallery, and Improvisation with Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson at Fullerton Auditorium. After a lunch at Stephenson Dining Hall, Dr. Ameling will provide parting words before the students depart.
