Benefit Concert On June 15 For Students Competing In NATS Semfinals

For the third year in a row, Limestone College will have students participating in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) national semifinal round of competition.  

Rising junior Bre Surratt, rising senior J.R. Bloomer, and recent graduate Zach Potter will represent the Limestone Music and Theatre Departments’ collaborative team June 27-28 on the campus of St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Both the national semifinals and finals will be held over the two-day period.

A fundraising concert has been scheduled at Limestone for Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m. inside Limestone Theatre on Leadmine Street. Proceeds will assist with the students’ travel expenses. Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted during the performance.

The three singing actors will be performing at the benefit show and Professor of Music Dr. David Thompson will accompany them.

“These wonderful students have progressed through state, regional, and online competition rounds to qualify to attend the national semifinals,” said Voice adjunct faculty member Dr. Cathy Siarris. “We are so proud of them. Along with Dr. Gena Poovey, Dr. Thompson, and Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, we have been so fortunate to work with these three students. We hope everyone will come out and support them at the benefit concert later this month as they prepare to travel to Minnesota to represent Limestone.”

NATS is the largest association of teachers of singing in the world with over 7,000 members from the United States, Canada, and 35 other countries.
