The Carolina Pro Musica ensemble will be performing a concert at Limestone College’s Fullerton Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Carolina Pro Musica was established in 1977 to promote the performance of music written before 1800 through the use of historic instruments and/or copies and in the performance practice of the periods in which the music was written.
During the upcoming concert, Limestone’s new harpsichord, which was acquired earlier this year thanks to a generous donation from the Kirby family, will be used.
The Carolina Pro Musica ensemble has performed throughout the Southeast for colleges, universities, arts groups, and schools. They have received grants from the N.C. Arts Council, the South Carolina Arts Council, the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the Cultural Education Collaborative, and others.
The group includes Karen Hite Jacob (artistic director, harpsichord, organ), Holly Wright Maurer (bass viola, traverso, recorder), RebEvening Programa Miller Saunders (soprano, percussion), and Edward Ferrell (recorder, traverso, guitar, mandolin).
Carolina Pro Musica traveled to Charlotte's Sister City, Wroclaw, Poland, in 1994 to perform and teach classes in early music in America. It performed in London in 2005, including Handel's House (now a museum) and Hatchlands; performed in a fringe concert of old and new music in 2009, during Boston's Early Music Festival; and performed a concert for the Moravian Music Festival in 2009. It has also been the ensemble-in- residence at Belmont Abbey College since 2001.
