Solos, duets, and ensemble numbers from various Disney movies will be brought to life on Saturday, March 3, during a special “Disney & Desserts” cabaret-style dessert theatre production by the Limestone College Chorus.
The event, which will be held on the Fullerton Auditorium stage, will serve as a fundraiser for the group’s performance tour of Germany this May.
Show times for the Disney-themed presentation will be 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. During the hour-long performances, audience members will also be treated to a variety of sweets and treats. There will also be opportunities to win door prices.
There are a limited number of tables and seating for the event, which is on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are required. The performances are free, with suggested donations of $20 or more. For reservations and seating arrangements, please call (540) 526-8275 or email dcbryant0116@limestone.edu.
Ensemble numbers will include “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins, and medleys from Lion King, Brave, and The Little Mermaid. Solo selections will include “Let it Go” from Frozen, “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, “The Bear Necessities” from Jungle Book, “Whole New World” from Aladdin, and “When Will My Life Begin” from Tangled.
“What better way for us to raise money for an educational tour than by doing what we will be doing when we make this trip – which is singing,” said Dr. Gena Poovey, the College’s Professor of Choral/Vocal Education. “These students are talented and enthusiastic performers. While the music we will sing at our spring concert and in Germany is quite different from the Disney tunes, this will delight the audiences here at home. And we hope to delight the German audiences during our travels as well.”
The group will embark on an eight-day choral concert tour of Germany May 13-20. The tour is part of Limestone’s extensive program of celebrations to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
The trip will have stops in Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Eisenach, and Dresden.
Limestone’s 26-voice chorus serves the campus with frequent renditions of the National Anthem and the Limestone College Alma Mater. Under the direction of Dr. Poovey and accompanied by Dr. David B. Thompson, the Chorus also performs concerts of great variety with works by composers such as Dan Forrest, Andre Thomas, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, and Jeffrey Ames.
The Limestone chorus has performed in New York, Utah, England, Austria, and Washington, D.C. The group was also a major component of the Southeast/East Coast USA premiere of “A Melancholy Song,” performing in Charleston and Columbia.
