In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Limestone College will hold events at Online & Evening locations throughout South Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
According to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, one in four women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in her lifetime, and, on average, three women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner.
Throughout October, communities across the country will mourn for those whose lives were taken by domestic violence, celebrate the tremendous progress victim advocates have made over the years, and connect with one another with a true sense of unity to end domestic violence.
Limestone College is hosting these events to raise public awareness about domestic violence and to provide support for those who have lost someone to domestic violence. The events will also be used to educate communities and individuals on how to recognize when someone is in trouble as well as provide information they need to be safe.
The program on the main campus in Gaffney will be held at Fullerton Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. The featured speakers will be Eboni Littlejohn and Casey Wright from SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition who will present information regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, answer questions, and provide resources for assistance. SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition operates a 24-hour crisis line and provides assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault victims in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. For more information about this event, call Beth Hyatt at (864) 488-8267.
Limestone will be hosting similar events at its Online & Evening locations in Aiken, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, and Lowcountry (Yemassee).
