Limestone Arts & Letters Day Set For October 7

Limestone College will host an Arts and Letters Day event on Friday, Oct. 7, for high school students from Gaffney and Blacksburg.

Arts and Letters is committed to the ideals of the liberal arts. Its curriculum is designed to introduce students to the full range of human experiences through the study of cultural heritage, forms of artistic and literary expressions, patterns of social and political behavior, and methods of critical inquiry. The mission of Arts and Letters is to prepare students for rigorous, intellectual and creative inquiry leading to their full development as human beings and to their responsible engagement with society.

Students will arrive and check in at Fullerton Auditorium from 8:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. Executive Vice President and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Karen Gainey will welcome students from 9 p.m. until 9:15.

From 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., students will then participate in groups as they visit four different areas of the college. Those include Visual Communication with Chris Neyen at Granberry Hall, Sticks & Stones & Broken Bones with Megan Anderson and Ellen Moore at Winnie Davis Hall of History, Steel Drums with Dr. Patrick Carney in the Carroll Fine Arts Building, and Improvisation with Dr. Tim Baxter Ferguson in Fullerton Auditorium.

A second set of activities will be held from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Those will include Slab Happy with Carolyn Ford at Curtis Ceramics Lab, Writing and the Body with Erin Pushman and Dr. Alex Richardson in Winnie Davis Hall of History, World Music with Dr. Chip Hill in the Carroll Fine Arts Building, and Scene Painting with Vandy Scoates in Granberry Gallery.

The students will also enjoy a lunch at Stephenson Dining Hall Banquet Room, where they will be welcomed by Dr. Hill. Dr. Gainey will again address the students before their departure.
