Limestone Psychology Department To Host SCPA Academic Day

Limestone College’s Psychology Department will be hosting South Carolina Psychological Association's (SCPA) annual fall Academic Day on Friday, Nov. 2, at 9:30 a.m. in Fullerton Auditorium.

Psychology faculty and students from colleges and universities throughout South and North Carolina will be on campus to participate. The day will start in Fullerton Auditorium with registration, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Gil Einstein, Professor of Psychology at Furman University.

Einstein has more than 100 publications, including six books, and has served on the editorial boards of several major journals, including “Journal of Experimental Psychology.”

In 2010, he was designated a Fellow by the Council on Undergraduate Research, and at which time he was one of only 14 Fellows from all science disciplines in the country. Dr. Einstein also received the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Distinguished Mentors Award in 2010. In 2013, he received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Science at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution.

After Einstein’s address, Academic Day participants will move to the Stephenson Dining Hall Banquet Room for a graduate school and careers panel discussion, followed by lunch and discussion of current issues in the field of psychology. The day will end with the annual psychology quiz bowl, where groups of undergraduate students from various schools compete in a test of psychology-related knowledge. Cash prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place.

SCPA is the only professional organization in South Carolina representing all areas of psychology: academic, practitioner, public service, and students. The purposes of the Association are to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare, to foster and maintain high standards of practice, teaching, and research in the field of psychology, and to make available to the public information regarding psychology as a science and as a profession.
