Limestone University To Host Music Faculty Recital on Tuesday, Oct. 8

The Limestone University Music Program will hold its annual faculty recital on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., in the Carroll Recital Hall.

The recital will feature four current faculty members performing a selection of songs for each of their respective areas of focus. The recital is open to the public and free of charge.

Limestone’s Professor of Music Dr. Chip Hill will perform clarinet at the recital, marking yet another performance for the Principal Clarinet of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and Second Clarinet of the Spartanburg Philharmonic. In addition to teaching and performing, Hill serves as the Executive Director for the Christian Performing Artists’ Fellowship and the MasterWorks Festival. He received his Bachelor of Music from Georgia State University, a Master of Music from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Michael Langer will perform on piano at the recital. After recently moving to Gaffney from North Dokota, Langer has been accompanying the Limestone University & Community Chorus, directing the Jazz Ensemble, and serving on the board of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association. Langer holds degrees in Music Education from the University of Mary, a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Boise State University, and a Doctor of Music Arts in Piano Performance and MasterPedagogy from North Dakota State University.

Limestone’s Director of Choral Activities and Program Coordinator Dr. Gena Poovey will provide a vocal performance for the evening. Poovey, who has received the Fullerton Teaching Award six times over her career, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Pfeiffer University, a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina. In addition to her role as the Professor of Choral and Vocal Music Education, she is also the Director for the Limestone University and Community Chorus.

Dr. Catherine Siarris will also provide vocals for the recital. Siarris is an active performer of opera, music theatre, and solo recitals. Her performance career includes numerous operatic leading roles such as Micaela in “Carmen,” Adina in “L'Elisir d'Amore,” Fiordiligi in “Cosi fan tutte,” Sonia in “Merry Widow,” Pamina in “Die Zauberflӧte,” Madame Lidoine in “Dialogues des Carmélites,” and most recently Lady Thiang in “The King and I” and Violet Newstead in “Nine To Five.” Siarris also currently sings with the South Carolina-based soprano trio, “The Blonde, the Brunette, and the Redhead.” In addition to teaching at Limestone, she provides instruction at Spartanburg Community College and Converse University.
