Piano Camp

Limestone University’s Music Program will soon be offering Community Music School Summer Piano Camps in the Carroll School of Fine Arts.

The camp will be taught by Dr. Michael Langer, Assistant Professor of Piano at Limestone, with assistance from Emma Isler, a Limestone Music Education student. The fee is $120 per student.

Langer and Isler will offer up three different camps between the dates of June 3 and June 14, with a combined recital of all three groups taking place on Friday, June 14, at 4 p.m., in Fullerton Auditorium. A reception will take place afterwards.

The adult camp will meet on Monday and Wednesday over two weeks from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., beginning on June 3. The camp is designed for adults who have never studied music or piano, or those who took lessons as a child but have not continued their studies into adulthood. Each student will learn to read music, play easy melodies, learn to play chords, and read lead sheets. They will learn to play familiar songs, new and old, depending on the interests of class members. Students will learn to play as a group and on their own.

The elementary and teenage camps will both take place over one week, beginning on Monday, June 10. The elementary camp, ideal for first and second grade students, will meet daily Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Students will learn the basics of playing piano in a group setting. There will be activities at the piano and away from the piano, including theory, rhythm, movement, singing, and games.

The teenage camp, best for middle school students, will also meet daily Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Students will learn the basics of playing piano in a group setting, mastering popular songs by artists such as Taylor Swift and from movies like “Star Wars.” Students will also learn theory, rhythm, movement, singing, and games, both at and away from the piano.

The deadline to enroll is Thursday, May 30, for the adult camp, and Friday, June 7, for the elementary and teenage camps. Those who wish to attend can enroll by visiting HERE.
