Copeland - Inauguration 2

Limestone University’s Presidential Inauguration scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, to ceremonially welcome Dr. Nathan Copeland as its 24th President has been postponed due to the possibility of inclement weather in the area.

The inauguration ceremony was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. inside Fullerton Auditorium. A new date for the inauguration will be announced in the future.

In addition, the Community Meet & Greet with Copeland scheduled for Thursday evening on September 26 at the Gaffney Visitors Center & Art Gallery has also been postponed. The new date for the Meet and Greet will be announced soon.

Limestone officials noted that the postponements were made in an abundance of caution to keep the campus and local communities safe. Several honored guests were expected to attend the inauguration ceremony on Friday, including many from out of town. The possibility of hazardous travel also played a part in postponing the inauguration.

Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to develop into a strong hurricane, will likely make an impact in the Upstate of South Carolina on Thursday and Friday, including Limestone’s campus in Gaffney.

Friday’s Homecoming activities planned at the women’s volleyball game at the Timken Center have been cancelled. That status of the volleyball game at 7 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial has yet to be determined.

Saturday morning’s 25th and 50th Reunion Reception at the Curtis Building has been cancelled, but participants are encouraged to attend the 1 p.m. Alumni Tailgate at Saints Field. The Alumni Tailgate will also honor the 10th anniversary of Limestone’s football program. The Homecoming Parade slated for Saturday morning has also been cancelled.

The Clary Family Tailgate Lot will open at 12 noon on Saturday and Limestone’s football game against Emory & Henry University will kickoff at 4 p.m. Tailgate passes and game tickets are available at www.GoLimestoneSaints.com/tickets. If heavy rains prevent the grass field at the Clary Family Tailgate Lot from opening, parking will be available in paved lots across campus. If the tailgate lot is open, fans are encouraged to use extreme caution entering and exiting the grass field. Limestone’s tailgating policies can be found at www.limestone.edu/tailgating.

The 2024 Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime of Saturday’s football game, along with the crowning of Limestone’s King and Queen.

Any updates regarding any further postponements or cancellations this weekend will be communicated through Limestone’s various social media accounts.
