Limestone University announced on Wednesday, Feb. 23, that it is relaxing its masking mandate for the majority of campus.
The policy change was implemented following a meeting earlier in the week by Limestone’s Crisis Response Team, which continually monitors health conditions on campus and in the Gaffney and Cherokee County communities to determine what steps are necessary to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
Effective immediately, Limestone is moving to voluntary masking in campus buildings, classrooms, faculty offices, and administrative offices. Masks will continue to be required in the Limestone Health Center.
The move by Limestone comes as the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control recently announced a plan to begin closing COVID-19 testing sites and end daily case reports because of the availability of rapid at-home tests and a decrease in demand for testing.
At the start of the current semester in January, due to a resurgence of the coronavirus and its variants at that time, Limestone implemented what it planned to be a temporary mask requirement inside campus buildings.
While now relaxing the mask mandate on campus, Limestone continues to highly recommend getting a COVID-19 vaccine (and booster at the appropriate time following a second dose of the vaccine).
Limestone and its Crisis Response Team continue to focus on the health and safety of the campus community, while continuing to advance student academic goals.
