A total of four new members were recently named to the Limestone College Board of Trustees and will serve five-year terms, while another member joins to fill an unexpired term.
“Limestone is proud to welcome this year’s new and returning Trustees,” said Limestone President Dr. Darrell Parker. “We are fortunate to have dedicated alumni and friends of the College who are strongly committed to the institution and its mission. These individuals will play a tremendous role in helping lead Limestone toward its future goals. I thank each of them for contributing their time and talents to the advancement of the College.”
The Class of 2023 trustees recently elected include:
Stephen R. Bryant, who resides in Columbia, started his career in the Information Technology industry with Policy Management Systems Corporation, followed by a Sales and Marketing role with UARCO, Inc. He then joined Computer Consulting Group, eventually becoming the Vice President of Sales.
In 1998, Bryant co-founded SYSTEMTEC, Inc., an IT services firm based in Columbia, with branch offices in Charlotte and Greensboro. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of SYSTEMTEC.
Bryant, who has served on the Board of Trustees twice before, received his Bachelor’s degree from Limestone College. His current and past board memberships include South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, TechServe Alliance, Jubilee Academy and Palmetto Health Cancer Centers. He is active in the Columbia Rotary Club.
Dr. Franklin L. Foster, who resides in Columbia, has earned degrees from Nova Southeastern University, Converse College, and Limestone. He has served as the Superintendent of the Colleton County School District since 2016, after serving as the Interim Superintendent from 2014-2016. He was also the district’s Director of Human Resources from 2012-2014.
Foster is currently responsible for overseeing the instruction of approximately 5,700 students and leading and managing a $43.5 million annual operating budget for approximately 900 employees and nine schools and centers.
In the past, he has also served as the Executive Director of Personnel and Employee Quality for the Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5, Principal of J.C. Lynch Elementary School in Lake City, Principal of Harbison West Elementary School in Irmo, and Assistant Principal of Nursery Road Elementary School in Irmo. He also has been employed by school districts in Cherokee, Chester, and Spartanburg Counties.
Dr. Michael P. Hoenig, who resides in Spartanburg, is a Partner at Carolina Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Associates (CONA). He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wofford College and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Emory University in Atlanta, and served his Orthopaedic Residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. At OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, Hoenig completed his Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship.
He is the athletic team physician for Limestone College, along with Byrnes, Woodruff, Dorman, and Spartanburg (surgical consultant) High Schools. He has privileges at Mary Black, Spartanburg Regional, and Pelham Hospitals, along with the Pelham Ambulatory Surgery Center and Spartanburg Surgery Center.
Hoenig, who is serving his second term as a Limestone Trustee, has provided orthopaedic coverage for the Big Ten Basketball Tournament, NCAA Basketball Regionals, Chicago Joffrey Ballet, and the NBA Pre-Draft Camp. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy Association of North America. He has served as a Clinical Preceptor at Limestone, Wofford, Wake Forest School of Medicine Physicians Assistant Program, and Gardner-Webb University.
Dr. Michelle Bedell Jolly, who lives in Gaffney, owns and operates Gaffney Dentistry along with her husband Dr. Henry L. Jolly, Jr.
She earned her Liberal Arts degree from Spartanburg Methodist College and both her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Jolly went on to complete her General Practice Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University.
She taught for two years in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program at MUSC before coming to Gaffney. Dr. Jolly is the first female dentist to serve on the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry. Her professional dentistry-related memberships include American Dental Association, Spartanburg County Dental Society, and South Carolina Dental Association.
Dr. Jolly and her husband, who worked in separate private practices for several years prior to combining their offices in 2003, are avid supporters from Limestone College Women’s Basketball. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Village School of Gaffney.
In addition to the new board members, Tommy Windsor was recently elected to fill the unexpired term of Dr. James (Jim) Prevost, who resigned earlier this year to become a full-time faculty member at Limestone. Windsor, who serves as the Director of Boards and Commissions for the Office of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, resides in Gilbert.
Windsor received his Bachelor’s degree from Limestone College. In addition to serving on the Governor’s Executive Staff, Windsor is also a football official with the S.C. High School League. He joins Limestone’s group of Trustees that will serve until 2022.
Organizations that Windsor is a part of include the South Carolina Football Officials Association, the Greater Columbia Football Officials Association, and the Greater Columbia Softball Officials Association. He is a former Board Member of the Central Midlands Council of Governments, Common Cause of South Carolina, and the Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina Board of Directors.
From 2003 to 2010, Windsor served on the Board of Directors of the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority and was Vice-Chairman from 2008 through 2010. He also serves as the Governor’s representative on the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and the South Carolina Native American Advisory Committee.
After being proposed by the Board’s nomination committee, the new members were elected by a full vote of the Limestone Board of Trustees.
“Our new Board members come from diverse backgrounds, but all have deep roots in the Limestone community,” said Board Chairman Randy Hines. “The breadth and depth of their experiences will benefit our Board and the College as we strategically position Limestone for the years to come.”
The Board of Trustees has fiduciary responsibility for the governance of Limestone College, serving to oversee and shape its broad policies. Limestone's President is responsible for the implementation of the College's policies.
