Limestone's Charles Wyatt Named To S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame Board

Charles Wyatt, the Vice President for Communications and Marketing at Limestone College, has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

The mission of the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame (SCAHOF) is to honor those who, by outstanding achievement or service, have made lasting contributions to the cause of sports in South Carolina, the nation, and the entire world. The non-profit organization in based in Columbia.

The annual SCAHOF Banquet, considered the largest annual celebration of Palmetto State sports stars under one roof, is held each February at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected to such a respected committee that recognizes so many outstanding individuals who have made impacts on athletics in South Carolina,” said Wyatt, a native of Gaffney who is now one of two members of the SCAHOF Board from the Upstate area. “It’s my hope that my experience in the areas of athletics and marketing will be an asset to the Hall of Fame. I cannot wait to roll up my sleeves with the other Board members as we begin to select the Class of 2019.”

In his role at Limestone, Wyatt leads a team that creates and implements a strategic communications, marketing, and public relations vision and program designed to build and strengthen the College's role and reputation as a leader in higher education.

He is currently in his 19th season as a broadcaster for Gaffney High School football on radio station WZZQ. As a former full-time member of the media, Wyatt captured numerous South Carolina Press Association awards for news and sports writing, as well as photography, during his time at The Gaffney Ledger (1985-1991) and The Cherokee Chronicle (1991-1997).

His marketing experience includes serving as the Marketing/Business Development Director for Hollywood’s Productions where he worked with clients such as Under Armour, MillerCoors, Cabela’s, Dr. Pepper, and others. He was also the Director/Marketing Coordinator for the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center, which captured the prestigious South Carolina Governor’s Cup Award during his tenure. The Governor’s Cup Award is given annually to the one destination in the state that demonstrates extraordinary success in tourism.

Wyatt has coordinated high school basketball and wrestling tournaments, as well as numerous community events. He also served as a past Board Member, Promotions Coordinator, and Chairman of the South Carolina Peach Festival. He is currently the President-Elect for the Rotary Club of Gaffney and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Cherokee County Community Foundation. He also serves on the Youth Tour Selection Committee for Broad River Electric Cooperative.

A graduate of Gaffney High School, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Limestone College.

At the SCAHOF’s 58th annual banquet earlier this year, the 2018 inductees included basketball standouts Ray Allen of UConn and Dalzell, Casey Manning of USC and Dillon, Kenny Washington of Beaufort and UCLA, Clemson wrestler Sammie Henson, USC baseball player Drew Meyer, S.C. State athlete Sam Goodwin, and marathon swimmer Kathleen Wilson of Charleston.

The SCAHOF also honored Gaffney native Louis Sossamon, along with Tim Bourret, Sam Wyche, Phil Kornblut, and Paul Kennemore with special awards.

Sossamon, a former USC football player who went on to play professionally, was recognized with the Felix “Doc” Blanchard Athlete/Citizen Award. He is a member of the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame (1974) and the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame (1968). He is former center and linebacker who played for the Gamecocks before spending three seasons with the New York Yankees professional football team (1946-48).

Bourret of Clemson was recognized with the Bobby Richardson Sportsmanship Award. Wyche of Greenville was honored with the Willie Jeffries Ambassador for Sports Award. Kornblut of Latta was honored with the Herman Helms Excellence in Media Award, and Kennemore of Greenwood received the Dom Fusci Leadership in Action Award.
