"Made In America: An Evening of Art Song" At Fullerton Auditorium On September 26

REThe Limestone College Department of Music invites you to Fullerton Auditorium on Tuesday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. for a “Made In America: An Evening of Art Song” recital by Dr. Stephanie Tingler (soprano) and Dr. Martha Thomas (piano).

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

They will perform a program of American songs representing folk music, including spirituals and Appalancian songs, as well as modern compositions based on poetry, operas, and musical theatre shows. The program is a fairly comprehensive survey of American art song, with connections to so many familiar styles, regions, and time periods that listeners are likely to find their own unique, personal connections to the music.

Dr. Thomas has been praised for the “lyrical beauty of her playing” and “her mastery of rhythmic and textural complexities.”Dr. Thomas maintains an active career as recitalist and collaborative artist, giving concerts across the United States and in Canada, Australia, Europe, and Africa. Appearances at conferences and festivals include those of the American Liszt Society, College Music Society, Festival of Women Composers, and Music Teachers National Association. Recent performances include those at the World Piano Conference in Serbia, the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference at the University of Southern Queensland, the Michael Joseph Center in Nairobi, Kenya, and the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy.

Dr. Tingler, recently hailed as “extraordinary” by composer, librettist, and producer Sheldon Harnick, has appeared in opera as the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflote, Adina in Elixir of Love, Nannetta in Falstaff; and musical theater as Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music and Poopsie in The Pajama Game. She apprenticed with the Lyric Opera of Cleveland, performed with a number of opera companies, and presented arias in concert with the Athens Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra Sinfanica de Porto Alegre (Brazil).
