Limestone has a new queen.
After the most recent Miss Limestone College had a commitment that prevented her from completing her reign, first runner-up Karrington Irby has stepped up to fill in. She will be competing in the 2020 Miss South Carolina Pageant July 26-August 1 at the Township Auditorium in Columbia.
Irby was also named “Miss Junior” at the Miss Limestone College Pageant held in March.
The annual Miss South Carolina competition, originally scheduled for June, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced this week. The live telecast of the finals, originally scheduled for June 27, will now air on August 1. The various phases of the competition will take place throughout the week of July 26.
The winner of the Miss South Carolina competition competes for the title of Miss America and wins a $60,000 college scholarship. All told, more than $200,000 in scholarships are awarded in the Miss South Carolina competition. The current titleholder is Morgan Nichols, a Clemson graduate.
A junior majoring in Biology, Irby is a member of the Limestone Dance Team. She recently volunteered with the “Read With A Queen” program. Her Miss South Carolina platform involves the impact that bullying has on mental health.
Irby attended Dutch Fork High School in Irmo. She aspires to become a nurse.
