Public School Textbooks Can Be Reviewed At Limestone's Eastwood Library

The state has started its yearly review process for textbooks and online instructional materials that have been proposed for use in South Carolina public schools.

Limestone is one of 18 colleges statewide where textbooks are available for residents to review though Nov. 23. The books are on display near the main entrance at A.J. Eastwood Library on the Limestone campus.

This year’s subject areas include algebra, geometry, Advanced Placement calculus, computer science, and visual and performing arts. High school career courses up for adoption include sports medicine, graphic communications, introduction to health professions and computer repair and service.

Evaluation forms are available to allow people to make comments after looking at the textbooks, Limestone College library director Lizah Ismail said.

In addition to to the display sites, digital access will be available for the recommended programs. Publishers have posted links to online materials that can be accessed on the state Department of Education’s website at www.ed.sc.gov.

State Board of Education members will review comments from residents statewide before a final decision is made. The state Board of Education will receive a recommendation at its Dec. 11 meeting regarding what textbooks should be adopted.
