As part of the national "Giving Tuesday" initiative, Limestone College created its inaugural “SaintsGiving” event at McMillan Hall on Dec. 2 as a way to celebrate generosity and to encourage giving.
Limestone College officials have announced that $49,192 was collected on Tuesday, with the majority of that going to the College's "Knowledge Is Power" Library Challenge that looks to raise $2 million by Dec. 31 in order to receive a $1 million gift from the Betsy M. Campbell Foundation. If Limestone meets that challenge, construction on the new library will begin in 2015. The College is approximately $100,000 away from reaching that goal.
“The turnout on Tuesday was tremendous and we are so thankful for friends of Limestone who turned out in masses to support this event,” said Kelly Curtis, Vice President For Institutional Advancement and Director of the Capital Campaign. “Our fund-raising target for ‘SaintsGiving’ was $20,000, and we surpassed that in a major way. This gets us even closer to meeting the library challenge, and at this point each and every donation is critical to our success. No matter the size, every gift makes a difference and counts as a positive vote for the future of Limestone College and its students.”
Tax-deductible contributions to the “Knowledge Is Power” Library Challenge can be made online by visiting www.limestone.edu/giving.
Curtis noted that Limestone’s “Pave The Way” brick initiative is still underway as part of the fund-raising effort to meet the library challenge. Limestone is selling individual engraved bricks to students, parents, faculty and staff, alumni, and friends of the College, and those personalized bricks will pave the entranceway into the library. Playing to Limestone’s history and founding year, the bricks are $118.45 each, and available for a limited time only. For more information, visit www.limestone.edu/pavetheway, or call (864) 488-4607.
