Erin Pushman Awarded Regional Artist Project Grant

Limestone College Professor of English Erin Pushman was recently awarded a Regional Artist Project Grant by the Arts and Science Council (ASC) of Charlotte, in conjunction with the North Carolina Arts Council.

Applicants for the competitive grant came from artists working in all creative disciplines from the City of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, as well as Union and York counties in South Carolina.

“I am honored to receive this competitive grant, which will fund my participation in the National Conference for the Association of Writers and Writing Programs in Washington, DC, on February 8,” Pushman said.

Regional Artist Project Grants provide awards for individuals to pursue projects that further enhance their artistic development by attending a professional development experience. Applications are judged in large part on evidence of overall artistic excellence and evidence of a commitment to pursing or maintaining a career as a practicing artist.

Pushman’s application included the first 10 pages of her literary nonfiction book that she is in the process of completing, entitled “Push: An (Un)Natural Story of Birth.”

ASC projects are made possible through the support of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency; the Blumenthal Endowment; and the North Carolina arts councils in Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, and Stanly Counties, and the South Carolina arts councils in Union and York counties.

Pushman has had two articles published in Breastfeeding Today, the official magazine of La Leche League International.

Her nonfiction writing has also appeared in The Gettysburg Review, Confrontation, Segue, Toasted Cheese, and The Asheville Citizen-Times among other publications. She has published dramatic writing in More New Monologues for Women by Women (Heinemann) and Boomtown: Explosive Writing from Ten Years of Queens MFA Program, and her plays have been produced on stages across the Carolinas.

Pushman is a member of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, the Conference of College Composition and Communication, and the Carolinas Writing Program Administrators.
