"Mythical" To Showcase Senior Art Major Kacie Faulks

For as long as she can remember, Kacie Faulks has been captivated by Greek and Roman mythology.

So it seems only appropriate that her Senior Art Show at Limestone College, “Mythical,” demonstrates that fascination.

The works of the 21-year-old from Union will be featured at Gaffney City Hall April 7 through May 13, with an opening reception and artist talk set for 6 p.m. this Thursday.

“Since I was a child, I have had an interest in mythology,” said the Studio & Graphics Art major, who is minoring in Business. “There are so many different ways that mythological characters can be interpreted. This art show will allows me to feature how I see them.”

Along with ceramics and ink drawings, “Mythical” is centered around 12 pieces of Faulks’ photography blended with her watercolor work.

“I walked around campus looking at students, trying to see which ones reminded me of various mythological figures,” she said. “Once I made those connections, I would approach them to ask if I could take their photographs. It wasn’t really people I knew all that well, but everyone was very cooperative. Watercolor can show a lot of emotion, and photography is something that everyone can relate to, so it was a good combination to compare real people with mythological figures.”

On posters promoting her “Mythical” Senior Art Show, Faulks combines a watercolor of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Crafts, and War, with a photograph of Limestone student and Saints’ softball player Alexis Cheyenne Jamison.

After graduating from Limestone in December of 2016, Faulks will pursue a career in Graphic Design

“My ultimate goal is to be a graphic designer and to own my own business,” she said. “I want to be a part of anything and everything that has to do with product design, promotional materials, and all other aspects of graphic design. I believe the education I have received at Limestone will help me to achieve my career goals.”
