Limestone College is planning one of the biggest Homecoming events in its history with the inaugural “Big Blue Tailgate” scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The “Big Blue Tailgate,” which will feature hot food, cold drinks, a band, cornhole boards, and more, will be held in the tailgate lot behind Sleep-Easy Mattress at 437 Hyatt Street in Gaffney.
The admission price of $15 includes a barbecue plate with baked beans, slaw, and potato chips, plus two drinks (bottled water and/or a soft drink). The food is being prepared by the Gaffney Elks Lodge, which will donate proceeds from the food sales to provide an annual Limestone scholarship for a deserving student.
Limestone College officials are stressing that this is not a fund-raising event, but a Homecoming celebration – and that you do not have to purchase a meal ticket to attend the special event. Friends of Limestone are welcome to walk into the “Big Blue Tailgate” with their own food and drinks.
As part of the meal ticket, drink service at the “Big Blue Tailgate” will feature a large Mobile Party Bar that includes four large flat screen televisions that will be showing live football games from across the country. Additional water and soft drinks will be available for $1 each at the Mobile Party Bar, which is being provided by Hollywood’s Productions, Inc.
The Blooters (seen in accompanying photo), one of the most popular bands in the Upstate of South Carolina, will provide the afternoon’s entertainment, playing a variety of music from Carolina beach to classic rock. The Blooters performance is being presented by radio station WZZQ.
After the “Big Blue Tailgate,” Limestone’s football team will host Catawba College at Gaffney High School’s “Reservation” stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
“We are creating a big signature event that our alumni, friends of the College, and local football fans can all enjoy,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement Kelly Curtis, whose office is coordinating the details. “We encourage everyone to come out and show their support for the Saints, while enjoying some fantastic food and great music.”
The Limestone Saints Tailgate Show on WZZQ-FM 104.3 and www.wzzqradio.com will also be on location at the “Big Blue Tailgate” from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Meal tickets can be purchased with cash at the entrance to the “Big Blue Tailgate” on Oct.10 for $15 per person while supplies last. Day of event ticket sales will begin at the gate at 3 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased with debit and credit cards online at www.limestone.edu/homecoming.
Personal coolers are welcome at the “Big Blue Tailgate,” but glass containers are prohibited. Guests are also encouraged to bring bag chairs with them.
Admission into the “Big Blue Tailgate” does not include parking fees necessary in surrounding lots.
