Life is built on relationships and when it comes to college life, one of the most common-least talked about sources of conflict has to do with sex. Almost everyone grapples with sex, and with that in mind, the Limestone College Speaker’s Series will host the program “Nonviolent Sexuality: Making Peace with Passion” today at Fullerton Auditorium starting at 8 p.m.
Against a backdrop of seemingly endless sex-related scandals in the news, ongoing concerns over teen pregnancy, sexual assault, sexually transmitted disease rates, continuing battles over gay marriage, sex education, abortion rights, the ubiquity of internet pornography, and the rise of a multi-billion dollar sex industry, “Making Peace with Passion” takes a fresh look at sex, conflict, alcohol and intimacy.
Over the past 26 years, the program by Bob Hall has been presented on over 1,000 college campuses. Hall has been nominated three times for the National Association for Campus Activities Lecturer of the Year.
Hall’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master’s in Conflict Resolution from Antioch University. He is the founder of Learning To Live With Conflict, Inc., a company he established in 1987 to provide education and training in the analysis and resolution of conflict.
“Most of the sex we are exposed to through television, advertising, movies, and music is designed to entertain us or to sell us something,” Hall said. “It's what I call ‘good sex and perfect love.’ It's not real. And, although we are passively aware of this fact, these images still affect the way we treat each other and the expectations we set for our relationships.”
