Limestone Theatre To Present "Importance Of Being Earnest"

Limestone College Theatre will present Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” during a three night run April 9-11.

Show time is at 7:30 p.m. each day. There will be a 10-minute intermission between Act Two and Act Three, approximately 90-minutes into the play.

Limestone College Theatre is located at 130 Leadmine Street in Gaffney. Advance tickets are available at www.showtix4u.com. Tickets are $8 for non-Limestone students with proper identification, for senior citizens 65 and over, and for children 12-under. Adult tickets are $10. Limestone students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door each day at 6:30 p.m.

The production is being directed by Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, Limestone’s Director of Theatre and Musical Theatre.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” was first performed in London in 1895. It heralded the pinnacle of Wilde’s career and served as a particularly shining example of his wit and humor.  In Earnest, Wilde both celebrates and satirizes the shallowness and hypocrisy of the upper classes. He understands their shortcomings and the absurdity of their moral stance, but he loves them passionately. That the play focuses predominantly on the joys and pitfalls of leading a double life is not surprising.  Wilde’s own “double life” would eventually lead to his imprisonment and exile. Though it is impossible to study Wilde and his work without delving into the darker side of his history, Limestone Theatre has chosen to place its focus firmly on the absurd joy he clearly found in life’s most trivial pursuits.

Cast members from Gaffney include Jada Bell (senior) as Lane, Zach White (junior) as Algeron, Treshawn Ford (freshman) as John Worthing, Trey Tubb (junior) as Lady Bracknell, Jade Alford (freshman) as Gwendolyn, Kinsey Gregg (freshman) as Cecily, James Holmes (freshman) as Chausable, and Jeanna Burch (freshman) as Merriman. Anna Grace Bradford (junior) from Spartanburg is appearing as Miss Prism.

Limestone College Theatre has also announced that “Les Miserables” will be featured on its stage June 18-21 and June 24-27. More information will be announced soon.
