For the third time in its history, a group of Limestone College students will soon be taking a bite out of the Big Apple as they get a behind-the-scenes look at Broadway.
The Limestone Chorus and students from the Theatre Department will spend May 11-16 in New York City where they will see Disney’s “Aladdin The Musical” and then have the opportunity to talk and interact with the cast following the performance. The group will also get a sight-seeing tour of the city and visit Ellis Island.
While on the way and once the group is in New York, the Chorus will be performing at a number of high schools as part of its recruiting efforts
The first trip to New York for the Limestone Chorus came in 1939, as it performed at the World’s Fair and Carnegie Hall. The Limestone Chorus went back to New York in 2000, where it joined the Community Chorus in returning to the stage at Carnegie Hall.
Fundraising is now underway to offset the costs of the trip in May. For information on how to make a tax-deductible donation, call (864) 488-4509. Over the next several weeks, the group will be holding several fundraisers, including performing Singing Valentines on Feb. 13 throughout Cherokee County. In-person visits are $25 each, and over-the-phone performances are $10 each. For more information, call the number above, or visit www.limestone.ed/singing-valentines.
