Limestone College Associate Professor and Director of Nursing Dr. Amber Williams has recently had her non-experimental study and research published in a scholarly journal.
Williams’ research, entitled “Development and Evaluation of a Theory-Based Approach to Reducing Carbon Monoxide, Morbidity and Mortality: The CO Blitz Model,” has been published in The Journal of Community Health Nursing.
During the study, events targeted five South Carolina communities, with volunteers providing education on carbon monoxide while local firefighters installed carbon monoxide alarms. At the four-to-six-month follow-up evaluation, all homes still had a functioning alarm. It was also found that 78 percent of recipients could name carbon monoxide sources in their homes, while 90 percent knew what to do if the alarm sounded.
“This represents the collaborative work done by many individuals and organizations over the course of several years to increase awareness of carbon monoxide and provide safer environments in South Carolina,” Williams said.
The Journal of Community Health Nursing is an innovative publication that focuses on healthcare issues relevant to all aspects of community practice – home healthcare, visiting nursing services, clinics, hospices, education, and public health administration. The Journal is a forum for community health professionals to share their experience and expertise with others in the field. All review papers in the journal have undergone editorial screening and anonymous peer review.
Williams received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to begin an RN-to-BSN program at Limestone this fall.
