A career fair is an event where employers and job seekers come together to talk about internship and job opportunities. Our event also includes admissions representatives from various graduate schools. Organizations are set up at individual tables and are typically staffed by professionals who focus on recruiting. Employers can provide information on positions they are currently recruiting for, the application and interview process, and answer broader questions about the company or any future opportunities.
Why should I attend?
Whether you’re looking for an internship, part-time or full-time job, information on graduate school or just wanting to practice your networking skills, this event is perfect for everyone! The career fair gives you a special chance to make a personal connection with a few employers at organizations you hope to work for now or in the future. This is also the perfect opportunity to start growing your professional network and get answers to questions you may not find online.
Who can attend this event?
The Career Fair is open to all current Limestone students and all Limestone recent graduates and alumni!
How do I prepare for the career fair?
RESEARCH
Identify organizations that interest you from the list of those registered
Research 3-7 companies through their websites, career pages, LinkedIn, social media, Google search and more.
Prepare questions or comments about the company or positions that interest you based on your research.
When you connect with an employer at the fair, they will expect you to have some basic knowledge about their organization.
Prepare your elevator pitch
Take some time to think about what makes you the best fit for their organization. What do you want the employer to remember about you? Be ready with a quick self-introduction focusing on your experience and interests.
Polish your resume
Make sure you have a final draft of your resume ready and that it has been reviewed. Contact tlbaker@limestone.edu if you need a resume review!
What should I wear to the event?
As a general rule, career fair attendees are expected to dress as they would for a job interview. This shows employers that you are serious and understand professionalism. Business professional clothing examples include: collared shirt or formal blouse, blazers, dress pants, skirts or dresses of an appropriate length.
Remember: if you need any professional clothing, please visit the Saints Career Closet on the 2nd floor of the Hines & Riggins Center!
Do I need to bring anything?
Several copies of your resume to give to employers (upon request)
A list of questions for each organization you are interested in
A pen and paper to take notes
Upon arrival the event, we will provide you with a folder to carry your resumes and any business cards or information you pick up from tables
How do I talk to employers?
Briefly introduce yourself; state your name, your major and what your career goals are
Be sure to listen intently to what the employer has to say about their company and any positions they have available. Follow up with any questions you have based on the research you’ve done.
Here are some sample questions you could ask:
What projects do interns work on in your organization?
What skills do you recommend I develop to be the best candidate for a position in this field?
Are you able to tell me what the application process for a job/internship is like for your organization?
Be sure to take note of the employer’s name and job title. Take their business card if they have one and thank them for their time.
What do I do after the Career Fair is over?
If the employer shares their contact information, please be sure to follow up with a thank-you email within 24 hours of the Career Fair. Ask any follow-up questions if you have any and reiterate any interest you have in their organization.
