BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROFILE: Selena Blair

Selena Blair is the Director of Equity and Inclusion at Limestone University. She graduated from Limestone with a bachelor’s in social work before going on to earn her master’s in counseling from Webster University. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctor of Education in Professional Leadership at Converse University where she will be defending her dissertation in the coming weeks.

Selena was first introduced to Limestone through the Block Program as a nontraditional student and is extremely grateful for the opportunity to be able to continue her education while balancing motherhood and working full-time. After hearing about the development of her current position, she knew that it was an endeavor she wanted to be a part of at the University.

Something you may not know about Selena is that although she was the valedictorian of her high school class, she never wanted to attend college; instead, she wanted to be a United States Marine.

When asked what Black History Month means to her, she said: "While Black History Month is a time to increase awareness, we should celebrate it all year long. A lot of what makes America great today started with sacrifices made by many black individuals decades ago, such as Shirley Chisholm, who blazed a trail on her way to becoming the first black woman to secure a seat in Congress in 1968. It is important to keep these achievements and legacies alive because they truly represent not only Black History, but American history.”
