To show support to its student from the Ukraine, Limestone University will hold a Prayer Walk For Peace on Thursday, March 3, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Camp-Swofford Chapel on campus.
Anastasiia Khriapko, a sophomore from Limestone who is a member of the Saints women’s tennis team, is from Kyiv in Ukraine. On February 24, Russia deployed its military into Ukraine, a neighboring country in Eastern Europe.
The event will begin at the chapel with a prayer by Limestone chaplain Dr. Tom LeGrand, followed by a musical selection. Those in attendance will then walk in silent prayer from the chapel, candles in hand, to the Curtis Building in the center of the front campus.
At the Curtis Building, students, faculty, and staff will be invited to come forward, light a candle, and pray for peace. Members of the community are also invited to attend.
The Limestone community is encouraged to wear blue and gold on Thursday, which is not only the University’s colors, but the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The iconic cupola atop the Curtis Building will be lit in blue lights Thursday evening.
“Our hearts are with Anastasiia, her family, and the people in the Ukraine,” LeGrand said. “This is Limestone’s way of letting Anastasiia know that we stand with her and that we are here for her. Our prayer is that her family remains safe, and that peace will quickly come to that country.”
