Limestone University Professor Dr. Aubrey Sejuit Co-Authors Book On Career Counseling

Limestone University Assistant Professor of Social Work Dr. Aubrey L. Sejuit has co-authored a new book, Gaining Cultural Competence in Career Counseling, with her mentor and former professor at University of South Carolina, Dr. Kathy Evans.

Sejuit teaches in Limestone’s Master of Social Work program and is also a counselor at the University’s Sib Collins Counseling Center.

The second edition book was published by the National Career Development Association, of which Evans is a former President.

After earning her Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision at the University of South Carolina in 2016, Sejuit worked as an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Counseling Program Coordinator for Lenoir-Rhyne University's Center for Graduate Studies of Columbia. While there, she taught multiple counseling courses, specifically Counseling Research and Addictions due to her background in addictions as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist.

She has also served as an adjunct in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at South University, particularly teaching Career Counseling due to her background in career counseling as a Certified Career Services Provider and Global Career Development Facilitator.

A Licensed Independent Social Worker-Clinical Practice, Sejuit is the current President-Elect for the National Association of Social Workers-South Carolina Chapter.

“The authors are well positioned to write this important and necessary book,” said Laura Reid Marks, Ph.D. in her review of the book for Career Convergence Magazine. “Overall, some particular strengths of the book include its emphasis and inclusion of existing guidelines and competencies, its focus on the breath of diversity that exists (age, race, gender, etc.), and its use of case studies, as well as review and reflection question exercises that help the readers to cement some of the key concepts.”

Sejuit is a graduate of Penn State University, where she earned her A.A. in Letters, Arts, and Sciences, B.A. in History, B.A. in Sociology, and M.Ed. in Teaching & Curriculum. She is also a graduate of Syracuse University, where she earned her MSW in Social Work, and the University of South Carolina where she earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision. As an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran where she served as an Intelligence Analyst with the 203D MI BN and the Intelligence Security Command, she is also a graduate of Cochise College where she earned her AAS in Intelligence Operations Studies with honors.
