The plans have been finalized for a second Limestone University Global Experience trip next month that will take students and chaperones to Puerto Rico for a nine-day adventure.
The details for the Global Experience journey to Hawaii were previously announced. While a group of Saints will travel to The Aloha State May 8-14, a separate group of students will be making its way to Puerto Rico May 10-18.
Limestone offers any of its undergraduate on-campus program students who wish to participate with the opportunity to go on one short-term Global Experience trip covered by their tuition. Each Global Experience destination is designed with a specific academic focus and taught and chaperoned by Limestone professors. Flights, ground transportation, lodging, meals, and travel healthcare insurance are covered by the University.
After flying to San Juan, the group from Limestone will take a guided tour of the El Yunque National Forest, followed by a guided tour of Old San Juan and then a visit to El Morro. While in San Juan, the Saints will enjoy a cave system exploration, a tour of the Puerto Rico nature reserves, and a visit to the Museum of the Americas.
Traveling to Ponco, the group will take in a cooking class demonstration and take a guided tour of the city. There will also be a coffee plantation visit as well as a bioluminescent bay tour. There will also be a visit to El Museo Castillo Serrallés to learn about sugar cane's important role in Puerto Rico's economy.
Returning to San Juan, the group will have a Puerto Rican dance lesson, enjoy a snorkeling excursion, and visit the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. Before departing for home, the Saints will also tour Casa Bacardi and have free time exploring the city of San Juan.
During the upcoming Fall 2022 semester, Global Experience trips are planned to Spain and France, and to Colombia.
Limestone’s inaugural Global Experience trip got underway last December as a group traveled to Peru for nine days. That trip was highlighted by a climb to Machu Picchu.
“The Global Experience provides our students with the opportunity to travel to some of the most iconic and educational locations in the world,” said Limestone President Dr. Darrell Parker. “We are proud to be able to offer this tremendous opportunity to our students.”
