Dr. Alex Richardson, a Professor of English at Limestone University, recently had two poems selected for Last Leaves Magazine, an online literary magazine that features art and poetry.

Richardson’s poems “Synthesis” and “Water” will be released with the Fall 2022 issue this October.

The theme for the fall edition is “Growth,” and will feature works covering a wide range of subject matter. Richardson’s pieces discuss two very different topics, with both converging into this similar theme.

“One is about the acceptance of death and making that loss a part of you,” he said. “The other is about being a bit happier when someone does something you thought you would have to do yourself, something simple. A small pleasure.”

Last Leaves Magazine promotes itself as “an online space for the celebration of great poetry.” It has currently produced four issues, and physical copies can be found through Barnes & Noble. All issues are available for free online at www.lastleavesmag.com.

Richardson has taught at Limestone for 20 years and was the University’s 2020 recipient for the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities Excellence In Teaching Award.

His collection of poems, “Porch Night on Walnut Street,” is available for purchase on Plain View Press. He has published poems in over 40 literary magazines, journals, and anthologies. Some of the journals include Rattle, Barrow Street, Free Lunch, The Southeast Review, and POEM.

In 2009, Richardson was awarded a Fulbright Scholar award for which he taught courses in American culture at the University of Madeira in Portugal. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in English at the University of South Carolina, and his doctoral degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi.
