Four Limestone Faculty Members Receive Fullerton Foundation Teaching Awards

Four members of the Limestone College faculty have been recognized with Fullerton Foundation Excellence in Teaching Awards for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The recipients include Dr. Maria Felicia Cavallini, Dr. Yan Gong, Dr. Katherine Dale Guffey, and Dr. John “Jack” Knipe. The four would have been recognized during Limestone’s Academic Awards Ceremony this spring, but the event was cancelled due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Each merit award winner received a cash stipend provided by the Fullerton Foundation. Criteria for the award include effectiveness in teaching; scholarly activities (research, publishing, papers for professional meetings, etc.); participation in Limestone's academic program (committee work, projects, etc.); continuing improvement of personal education; assistance to students; community service; and activities which reflect favorably upon Limestone.

Cavallini is a Professor of Physical Education. She received her B.A. degree in Physical Education from Rice University, her M.A. in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and her Ed.D. in Education from the University of Houston.

Gong, a Professor of Mathematics, earned her B.S. degree in Engineering Thermal Science and her M.S. in Economics & Management from Tsinghua University in China, and her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University. 

Guffey is an Associate Professor of Law.  She earned her B.A. degree in Theatre from Hollins University, her M.Ed. in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University.

Knipe, an Assistant Professor of English and Spanish, received his B.A. degree in Spanish from Bob Jones University, his M.Ed. in Integrated Curriculum and Instruction from Covenant College, his M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from Middlebury College, and his Ph.D. in International Education and Linguistics from George Mason University.
