Limestone's First "League Of Legends" Esports Online Tournament Scheduled For Friday, May 8

Limestone College will be hosting its third esports online tournament on Friday, May 8, starting at 6 p.m.

In an effort to provide activities for Limestone students while they are finishing out the semester through remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic, the College fast-tracked its esports program with its first online gaming tournament on March 28. A second tournament was held on April 17.

Both of those were Rocket League competitions, but Limestone is switching things up this time around with a League of Legends tournament.

Depending on the number of players who register, the tournament will either be a 1-vs.-1 bracket on the map Howling Abyss or a 5-vs.-5 in-house best-of-three with teams decided on by Limestone’s esports coach Zach Lewis. Players will sign up as individuals and will be notified before the tournament which format will be used.

Registration will be managed on Battlefy.

The tournament will be live-streamed HERE.

The event is open to all current Limestone students who have gaming capabilities. Students are also encouraged to invite their friends, who are not enrolled at the College, to join in. The general public is also invited to take part.

Players can email questions to coach Lewis at zwlewis@limestone.edu.

Once its esports program officially begins this fall, along with the competitive varsity squads, Limestone will also offer a recreational gaming club that will have access to the state-of-the-art gaming lab and lounge that will be located inside the Fort Residence Hall.

The gaming club will be the branch of the program that will enable any Limestone student to become involved in esports. By offering regular in-house events, meetings, and intramural tournaments, students will be able to enjoy esports and gaming without the stress of varsity competition.

Limestone’s varsity competitions will be broadcast live on the internet, and Lewis said he also anticipates watch-parties across campus for some of the higher-profile competitions.
