Dr. Nathan B. Copeland, Vice President of Advancement and Enrollment at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, has been selected as the 24th President of Limestone University.
Limestone Board of Trustees Chair Randall L. Richardson announced that the Board voted to offer Copeland the position during a meeting on Friday, April 19.
Copeland will be formally introduced as President-Elect during a press conference at the Hines & Riggins Center on Thursday, April 25, at 10 a.m. The exact date Copeland will take office has not yet been determined.
“This is a great honor, and I am tremendously humbled to be given this opportunity,” Copeland said. “To the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community, I am grateful for the trust that has been given to me to lead our institution. I am looking forward to serving our campus in the days and years to come. Limestone is clearly a special institution on the brink of what can and will be a healthy and vibrant future.”
One of three candidates recommended to the Board of Trustees by the Presidential Search Committee chaired by Dr. James (Jim) Prevost, Copeland received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from Harding University and his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Alabama.
“Dr. Copeland is a dynamic leader who brings an abundance of experience and energy to the role of President at Limestone University,” Richardson said. “He understands our mission as a Christian-based institution that has been at the forefront of higher education for nearly 180 years, and he will lead Limestone into an even brighter future. It became apparent during this process that Dr. Copeland is a visionary leader who will bring a sense of excitement to our campus. We look forward to working together to make Limestone one of the finest and most vibrant liberal arts institutions in the nation.”
Copeland arrived at Spring Hill in November of 2021 after serving as Vice President of Operations for Wiggins Incorporated in Montgomery, AL, a nationwide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing contractor group, and Principal for The Alabama Group, a small business development company.
His academic career began at Harding University in Searcy, AR, where he was the Assistant to the President as well as the Director of the Center for Professional Excellence in the University’s Carter College of Business. He also taught classes in Harding’s Business School on leadership, business communications, promotional strategies, and entrepreneurial studies.
“We were eager to identify a Presidential candidate who possessed strategic leadership skills along with recognizable care and compassion for students and the entire campus community,” Prevost said. “Members of the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees are delighted to join all of Limestone Nation in welcoming Dr. Copeland and his family to Limestone.”
Copeland will be joined in Gaffney by his wife, Erin, along with 16-year-old daughter Kate, 14-year-old son Colin, and 12-year-old twin sons William and Grant.
