Warning Signs of a Mental Health Crisis

If you or someone else seems to be experiencing any of the following symptoms and feel it is an emergency, please read and choose the correct response below. According to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), common warning signs are:

  • Inability to perform daily tasks, bathing, getting dressed, etc.
  • Rapid mood swings
  • Increased agitation, risk-taking/out-of-control behavior
  • Abusive behavior to self or someone else
  • Isolations from work, school, family, and friends
  • Loss of touch with reality
  • Paranoia

During a mental health emergency, please use your best judgment to determine if the situation calls for one of the responses below.

  • For life-threatening emergencies, call the office of Campus Security at (864) 488-8344 or 911. Both departments will be in contact regardless.
  • Make an appointment with one of the licensed counselors at the Sib Collins Counseling Center. Check the contact information listed above for the counselor you are scheduling with.
  • During business hours, call the Sib Collins Counseling Center at 864-488-8208 to see if a staff member can assist. If no one answers, please leave a voicemail or email one of the counselors listed above.
