The Limestone University Art Gallery is currently hosting its latest exhibit, “Visualizing a Lifetime: Remembering Sara Setzer,” which will run through Friday, Nov. 8, at The Gallery, located inside the Hines & Riggins Center.
A reception honoring Setzer’s artwork, and her memory, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, starting at 6 p.m. inside The Gallery.
The exhibit, currently on loan from Setzer’s granddaughter, Delilah Rhodes, celebrates her lifelong passion for art and her frequent subject matter – family, home, and animals.
Setzer, who passed away in May 2024, earned a bachelor’s degree from Murray State University and a master’s from Miami University in Ohio. She taught at Virginia State College and Western College for Women before accepting a position at Limestone in 1968. She remained on staff for 30 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus of Art.
In addition to teaching at Limestone, Setzer contributed to Gaffney and Cherokee County in numerous ways. She attended Limestone Presbyterian Church, was a lifetime member of Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society, and was a founding member for the Cherokee County Alliance of Visual Arts, the Humane Society of Cherokee County, and the Gaffney chapter of the American Association of University Women.
