How to Transfer Credits to an Online/Evening Program

Whether you’re transferring from a community college or looking for an institution that’s a better fit for your life, the transfer process varies from institution to institution. When it comes time to transfer credits into your new program, follow these steps to help make the transfer process as seamless and stress-free as possible.

1.     Request official transcripts from all of your previously attended institutions – including any potential college credit you may have earned from AP, IB, early college, or dual-enrollment programs. The academic staff at your new institution will evaluate these transcripts and identify courses that have the necessary attributes to merit applied credits for either your general education or major-specific requirements.

2.     Know the transfer policies at your new institution. For example, at Limestone, students can generally transfer up to 66 semester hours from regionally accredited two-year colleges and up to 90 hours from regionally accredited four-year colleges.

3.     Get an idea of what you can expect by reviewing your new institution’s transfer guide. These guides show the required courses for each major of study, giving you access to the full list of courses you will need to obtain your degree, as well as information on possible equivalencies to courses you’ve already taken.

4.     Check to see if your previous institution is part of a transfer partnership with your new institution. Limestone has partnerships with technical colleges throughout South Carolina to offer a smooth transition for transfer students
