On Tuesday, February 19, seniors Will Tomkins and Quandarius Neal will present a joint percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium.
Tomkins first discovered his love for percussion 13 years ago. Known for always sitting in the back of the classroom, it was no surprise when the then-clarinetist found his way to the back of the band room… and right to the percussion instruments.
That same year, Neal, a Union, SC native, found himself drawn to them for a different reason. “Seeing my big sister do band made me join,” he said. “I joined percussion because it looked cool.”
And over a decade later, it still does.
Today, Tomkins and Neal are both members of the Limestone Marching Saints and Saints Percussion. They also share similar goals for life after graduation.
Hailing from Long Beach, CA, Tomkins intends on moving southwest to teach percussion and attend graduate school, while Neal plans on getting his master’s degree in music in order to teach band around the Upstate. Neal also hopes to teach private lessons while composing his own music.
For his final recital, Tomkins will perform “Rhythm Song” by Paul Smadbeck, "Five Ages" by Greg Danner, and "As One" by Gene Koshinski, a duet with Neal.
Neal will be performing “Bateria” by Darin Kamstra, “The Hunted” by Gus Burghdorf, “Summer Tree House” by Chad Floyd, and “Sonata for Timpani” by John Beck.
Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
