DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student
NOMINATE AN EXCEPTIONAL LIMESTONE BSN STUDENT FOR A DAISY AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINARY STUDENT
An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem, The DAISY Foundation was formed in November 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family.
By recognizing nursing students for their care and compassion for patients and their families, The DAISY Foundation recognizes and celebrates what it means to be a nurse. The Foundation seeks to honor the nurse-patient connection that is so essential to patient care. This relationship is key to the health care experience and extraordinarily meaningful to patients and their families. It is the nurse’s ability to engage in a trusting, caring relationship that defines nurses and nursing care. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student will permit nursing students to learn each other’s stories of compassionate care and to be both inspired and motivated.
ABOUT THE AWARD
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Nominees must be clinical nursing students who consistently demonstrate all of the following criteria:
- Provides compassionate, respective, and empathetic care for patients and their families
- Serves as an advocate supporting patients and families to meet their unique needs
- Demonstrates a commitment to Limestone University’s values of accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership
NOMINATION PROCESS:
The eligible nursing student must be nominated by a fellow student or faculty member, healthcare coworkers & providers, patient or a patient's family member, staff, or volunteers through our online nomination form.
DEADLINE:
Friday, April 2, 2021 at 5 PM
SELECTION COMMITTEE:
Department of Athletic training, Nursing, & Health Sciences faculty and administrators. Annually
PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD:
The award recipient will be announced at the Spring Academic Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 6:30 PM.
AWARD WINNER RECEIVES:
- A hand carved Shona Sculpture entitiled “A Healer’s Touch”
- A DAISY Award Certificate and portfolio cover
- An award pin
- A tote bag
