Starting in December of 2018, Limestone’s commencement exercises will have a distinctive new look as the College strives to bring together graduates from its various degree programs.
In years past, Limestone has held separate graduation ceremonies over three days for its Day Campus, Evening Program, and Online/MBA Programs. Beginning on December 14, there will be two commencement exercises that will take place on the same day inside Fullerton Auditorium.
“Each and every student and eventual graduate is important to our Limestone family, regardless of the path taken to get their diploma,” said Dr. Darrell Parker, the College’s President, in explaining the new commencement format. “We have four different programs – Day, Online, Evening, and MBA – but together we are ‘One Limestone’ and our desire is for students from each of those programs to come together and celebrate this monumental occasion with one other and with us. This is going to be a fun-filled day and we can’t wait to have so many people together at once on our campus.”
At 10:45 a.m., Limestone will hold a graduation ceremony for its Arts & Humanities Division and Education & Behavioral Sciences Division. Those majors include (Arts & Humanities) Art, English, History, Liberal Studies, Music, Professional Communications, and Theatre, along with (Education & Behavioral Sciences) Childcare Management, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, English Education, Math Education, Physical Education, Psychology, and Social Work.
Then at 2:45 p.m., the College will hold commencement for its Natural/Health Sciences Division and Business & Professional Studies Division. Those majors include (Natural/Health Sciences) Athletic Training, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Health Sciences, and Mathematics, along with (Business & Professional Studies) Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Human Resource Management, and Sport Management.
All graduates will be allowed four tickets for the respective commencement ceremonies for friends and family members.
For the morning ceremony, graduates can pick up tickets for commencement at Winnie Davis Hall of History between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. A President’s Reception will be held in the Formal Parlors of the Curtis Adminitration Building from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Campus tours and departmental activities will also be held during that time period. Graduates will begin lining up for commememcent at 10:15 a.m. in the A.J. Eastwood Library.
For the afternoon ceremony, graduates can pick up tickets for commencement at Winnie Davis Hall between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. A President’s Reception will be held in the Formal Parlors from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Campus tours and departmental activities will also be held during that time period. Graduates will begin lining up for commememcent at 2:15 p.m. in the library.
For graduates, family, and friends who would like to purchase souvenir items, the Saints Shop will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Dr. Parker noted that the long-range plan is for a similar schedule of events to take place for commencement exercies in May of 2019 and those that follow for years to come. Beginning with the December ceremony in 2020, graduates will be receiving degrees from Limestone University. The institution announced earlier this year, after a vote by its Board of Trustees, its “Drive To University” initiative that will culminate with the official name change in the fall of 2020.
Additonal details about the two graduation ceremonies on December 14 will be announced closer to the date.
