HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE LIMESTONE COLLEGE ART DEPARTMENT:

Juried Art Show:

The Limestone College Art Department’s exhibit entitled “Reformation Juried Student Show” is on display through February 12 in the Granberry Gallery. The exhibit features works by Marlon Ascencion, Morgan Faucett, Joy Singleton, Derek Turner, and Christine Wicht.

The exhibit’s reception will be held January 23 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. as part of Limestone’s Reformation Reflections series.

Works selected for this exhibit represent a range of historical influence from pre-Reformation to post-Reformation.

The Art Department’s Juried Show is an annual exhibit open to interested high school students and current students wishing to further their scholarship support.

Ford Featured In Exhibits:

Carolyn Ford, Limestone College Professor of Art, will be featured in “Southern Sampler: Contemporary Artists of the New South” at the College of Brockport State University of New York in the Tower Fine Arts Gallery.

Ford created 13 new ceramic disk tiles specifically about her Tennessee heritage for this exhibit.

The exhibition will run from January 30- March 4.

“There are three themes I explored: Southernisms, traditional southern skills, and the three parts of the state’s style of music,” she said. “I hope the northern viewers will want to ask questions and understand the importance of traditions created from historical context – wipe away the stereotypes and understand the roots of our ways. I also hope to impart humor from our colorful means of spinning yarns.”

Also, Ford will be featured in SC Clay > Higher Ed exhibition at Francis Marion University. This exhibit will feature 22 college and university ceramicists representing 14 state-wide institutions.

SC Clay> Higher Ed will be on display at FMU from February 20-March 29 in the Hyman Fine Arts Center Gallery. The reception will be February 20 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

“In this exhibit, I have put together five works representing influential travel locations including Bolivia, Italy, Greece, Mexico, and China,” Ford said. “Each incorporates a reference to a historical work of art or monument juxtaposed to a personal tongue-in-cheek story or humorous element that made an impression.”

Trip To Spain Planned for Summer 2018:

Emily Tuttle and Carolyn Ford from the Limestone Art Department will lead a trip abroad to Spain and Portugal this summer through EF Tours.

The trip is open to all college students and community members. During the 13-day tour, participants will travel to Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, and many other locations, including a specialty trip to Cordoba led by Professor Tuttle.

Schenning Conducts Workshop:

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, Brett Schenning from Limestone College’s Art Department conducted a Rowan-Salisbury Art Specialists Developmental Workshop at Waterworks Visual Arts Center in Salisbury, NC.

This workshop focused on strategies for educators to engage their classes in photographic imaging techniques.

Schenning has served as a freelance photographer, gallery director, exhibitions assistant, and art instructor for children and adults. He has taught a variety of photography, drawing, and painting classes at Waterworks. He is a professional photographer and currently teaches photography and visual arts at Limestone College.
