National Political Consultant To Speak At Limestone MLK Event

In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Limestone College will host a special program at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 15, at Fullerton Auditorium.

There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend. The 15th annual program is being produced through a partnership with Limestone College and the Cherokee County MLK Committee.

The program will feature guest speaker Bishop M. Garrison, Jr., a national political consultant and advisor. His message is entitled, “Moving Beyond Partisanship Through The Good We Do.”

Garrison, Jr. is originally from Lexington, SC. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 2002. He served two one-year tours in Iraq with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Calvary Regiment, the “Brave Rifles,” and is the recipient of two Bronze Stars, a Meritorious Service Medal, and a Combat Action Badge. After his time in the Army, he attended and graduated from the William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, VA.

Following law school, Garrison worked as a federal consultant with Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Federal Solutions Group until February of 2012 when he was approached regarding his possible interests in politics. He was offered and subsequently accepted the position of Director of Constituency Outreach and the Director of Veterans Outreach for the Commonwealth of Virginia with the Obama-Biden re-election campaign. After the election, Garrison became a political appointee serving in White House in liaison roles at both the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs. He went on to serve as Advisor to the Science and Technology Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security. In this capacity, he worked for the Under Secretary in several roles involving large scale and highly visible issues of policy and process. These efforts included serving as the Executive Director of the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee as well as a role as Deputy Lead on a TSA Blue Ribbon Panel that reviewed the airline passenger screening system. Following his time in the Administration, he served as the Deputy Foreign Policy Adviser on the Presidential campaign of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Currently, Garrison serves on the Northern Virginia Regional Advisory Board of the non-profit Urban Alliance. In 2017, Garrison served as an American Delegate for the American Council on Germany’s Young Leaders Conference in Munich and Berlin. This conference brings together 50 rising stars from government, business, journalism, academia, the military, and the non-profit sector for a week of intensive dialogue concerning domestic, bilateral, and global issues affecting both the United States and Germany.

Garrison resides in the Washington, DC, area with his wife, Cannon-Marie Green.
